Why you need to insure your handbag
According to a psychologist, the reason for such expenditure in a recession is the need to lift ourselves from the doldrums of economic hardship.÷ Although if we are carrying ÷£57 worth of cosmetics our handbags may also be hard to lift! The most popular products, according to the telegraph 13/07/09 are primarily Mascara, then Lipstick and finally Foundation.÷ How representative this is of the wider population is hard to say, but without question facial make-up is big business.÷ Lips and eyes are often the most important, as not only do they contain all the historical seductiveness of our species, but are also the easiest to touch up in the most inconvenient of places.÷ So it"s not surprising that we cram our bags full of such cosmetic ammunition.
But are the reasons for our expenditure the psychological pressures of recession? We know that compensatory eating is often an indulgence of those facing "the blues" but what about lipstick?÷ I think it is entirely possible but not necessarily the most obvious explanation.÷ Perhaps it is the constant media bombardment to look better in order to feel better.÷ Let"s face it, more and more children from the ages of 9 and upwards apply makeup, not because of the economic crisis but largely due to socially derived pressures.÷ Is this a good thing, I for one have my reservations.÷ I suspect that many children today rather than actually playing at being grown ups actually want to be grown up and we know what complications that brings!
In my industry of Cosmetics I am glad we are spending more. However, lets be circumspect about what we spend it on.÷ Spend it with us yes but÷ there are better ways to feel happy about yourself.÷ Why not take a long good look in the mirror without your makeup and be delighted with the person that"s gazing right back at you.
